WHAT IS A TONGUE TIE?

Tongue tie (Ankyloglossia) is a condition present at birth that restricts the tongue’s range of motion. With tongue tie, an unusually short, thick or tight band of tissue (lingual frenulum) tethers the bottom of the tongue to the floor of the mouth. This can cause different severities of problems including eating, speaking, swallowing, development of the jaws and most importantly breathing. This condition can be corrected with a minor surgical procedure that if done correctly can have a lifetime’s worth of benefits!

A Frenectomy is a procedure that consists of releasing the frenum under the tongue or upper lip to allow for better range of motion. The procedure is performed by a doctor who has advanced training in this procedure and knows not only how to execute the procedure but also knows what other factors need to be considered both before and after the procedure.

At the Pain and Sleep Therapy Center we are proud to use the latest and most innovative technology to gently and effectively remove the frenum’s restriction in the most comfortable setting.
